On writing, to learn
Right at the beginning of my journey, I wasn’t able to find much long-form or in-depth writing from those who create and make in this field. It’s one of the ways I like to learn. Not so much about how they work, but what they’ve learned along the way, or are continuing to learn through their process. That kind of insight lands differently, especially outside the standard formats of social media.
Since I started freelancing, I’ve come to understand why. This work is already deeply labour-intensive — physically, mentally, creatively.
Because of that, in my practice sessions at home since, I don’t have the same capacity to meticulously document my observations the way I used to. At least not in this season of my journey. But I am grateful about that too, through what I’m learning on the job.
I’d like to think I’ll return to more intentional material studies and detailed observations someday, to compile notes and experiences more thoroughly.
But for now, this isn’t the season for that kind of learning. :)
